Overcoming Fear

Psalm 4:4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

Here we are given some great advice that will help us to overcome fear. Most of the fear that I face is in my mind. I sit and I think about things and so quickly I can become afraid and fearful. The greatest battle with fear is in the mind and not in the day to day of life.

The advice given is to commune with our own hearts. We are to tell ourselves what to think about and not just allow our minds to think about whatever they want to. If we will think on the Word of God and the goodness of God rather than things we fear we can sleep in peace. We can be still and know that we are safe in God.

Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

There will always be many things that we can fear. We cannot trust in man or anything in this world to keep us safe. Only God can truly keep us safe and always knows what is best for us. We can trust God with our safety.

Fear comes from a lack of trusting in God.

Let us choose to think about God and how good He is and not allow fear to control our lives!
