2 Chronicles 8:1-5 Now Benjamin begat Bela his firstborn, Ashbel the second, and Aharah the third, Nohah the fourth, and Rapha the fifth. And the sons of Bela were, Addar, and Gera, and Abihud, And Abishua, and Naaman, and Ahoah, And Gera, and Shephuphan, and Huram.
Reading the first 8 chapters of 1 Chronicles can be really hard. It is a list of names from Adam to the Babylonian captivity. Most of the names come with no description and so we know nothing of their lives or what they did.
When I read these lists of names I can’t help but wonder what they did. I wonder how shortly after I die will I just become a name on a list of paper or not even a name on a list. How quickly will I be forgotten?
It is amazing however, to think that these are not just names to God. God knows each of the men whose names are listed in the Bible. I may be forgotten by everyone in the world after I die, but God knows who I am and I am more than just a name to Him.
We should live more for God because how He sees us that will last. God is the one that will remember us long after we have died.
