And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. – Colossians 3:17
This verse gives a better standard for making the decisions in our lives. Many times as believers we get caught up in seeing how much we can do or we ask the question is this wrong? When what we really should be asking is can I do this in Jesus’ name and give thanks to God for it. As believers it is not about how much we can get by with and still be right with God. We should be striving to live lives that glorify God at all times both in our actions and in our speech. We should be able to thank God in all the things that we do because we know that what we are doing is pleasing to God.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. – Colossians 3:16
The way that we know what is pleasing to God is by allowing the Word of Christ to dwell in us richly. This is why it is so important that we spend time in God’s Word so that it can dwell in us and show us what is pleasing to our God. How different would we be if we were to live by this standard?
